About Us
Trichur Handicraft Workers Industrial Co-operative Society Limited (THWICS) centered at Trichur and established in the year 1971 (6th March 1971), was set up by a group of experts in the handicraft industry with an intention to develop the industry and economical uplift of thousands of workers associated with it.
Vision
As per Sec8 of Kerala Co- Operative Society Act 1169-21, THIWCS Industrial Co-operative Ltd No- C.IND(R) 193 came into effect. According to the Indian Culture, handicraft plays a major role in the district of Trichur. To bring a boom in this industry, the bank was brought into the scene. This was done with the help of bank stores along with the wholesale as well as retailers. There were no mediators or dealers to be seen in the scene. The THIWCS takes up the responsibility of trading their produce in bulk or retail through its various showrooms. The prime focus of corporation is providing a marketing platform for traditional artisans of Kerala and there by uplift their living standard.
Women Empowerment
Women empowerment is kept on a high priority keeping in view various employment options for women such as hotel industry, agricultural farming, Generation of Solar power and paper bags manufacturing unit. Many marketing handicrafts are procured directly from the artisans. As Govt. of Kerala is facing acute shortage of electric power in the state, a project that can improve the power situation in the state will be welcomed by the Government. The idea was to generate green energy by installing solar panels at various locations in the panchayath limits of the district. ‘Green industrial Kerala’ is the slogan of the new project undertaken by the society. Also we have plans to set up LED bulbs manufacturing unit run by women.
